In honor of V.Smolnikov’s 100-year anniversary the second edition of “Notes of Shanghai doctor” was published.

A long time a prominent soviet scientist V.Smolnikov lived in Shanghai. In China he got the idea of writing memoire which mentions historical events and episodes from everyday life around him which he had an opportunity to witness. The book couldn’t be published during the Soviet era. It contains a lot of references to some unknown historical facts and interesting details of life in mid-XX century Shanghai, a city which was referred to as “Asian Babylon” in time of its prosperity. It also mentions some details about life in Shanghai during four major regime changes in China.

As a professor at medical faculty of Aurora University and as a private doctor he dedicated himself to anesthesiology. He was one of those who were at the foundation of Russian anesthesiology and resuscitation.
